Korean company LG was established in 1947, as Lak Hui (pronounced "Lucky"). As the company expanded its business, it established GoldStar, a company that produced first Korean radio, and later, various consumer electronics. Both companies Lucky and GoldStar merged and formed Lucky-Goldstar in 1983, which later renamed to LG in 1995, and currently manufactures wide range of products in consumer electronics, chemicals, telecommunication equipment, information technology and power generating equipment, and employs over 220,000 employees world-wide.
